Please Note:As at December 23, 2002 “M-Tram”(National Express)quit it’s Melbourne

tram business. Until next June, Yarra Trams will be running M-Tram. This was inevitable as Melbourne had two private tram operators. It is believed that Yarra Trams will next year buy out M Tram and therefore, keep the same frequencies, which are now all being used by Yarra Trams, so all M Tram frequencies revert to Yarra Trams, but I’ve included the old usage in the notes for easier transition.

Tram Radio is a telephone-type handset located to the right of the tram driver, he simply picks it up to talk to a depot or mechanic etc.

Depots can also broadcast via tram radio a message to the entire tram via it’s Public Address system.

September 23, 2003: It is expected that Yarra Trams will be buying the M-Tram operation off the State Government and therefore, Yarra will then own the entire tram network. They are not expected to change frequencies or radio set up, just re-integrated the two networks (which were originally one unit, “Met Tram Radio”) together again. A Geelan
