Notes:
1.
None of the HF frequencies
can be received with a scanner. The Police use SelCall (Same as UHF CB) to dial-up
individual radios, to remove the no-signal reception static, and therefore (as scanners
don’t decode SELCALL) we can’t hear it, only the radio with the dialled code can.
2.
Some dedicated HF Receivers
(like my PYE Vietnam War HF Radio) will receive these transmissions.
3.
A Beacon operates on each
frequency from Melbourne for propagation tests and this can be heard on a
scanner.
4.
Rarely, the HF network will
be used in “open” mode, where we can here the transmissions, this mostly occurs
during interstate events/disasters and HF is rarely used at other times.
5.
The Last Time Police HF
was used in “open” mode was during the Port Arthur Massacre of 1996, where AIR 495
(Air Wing) and Security 500 (SOG) were deployed to Hobart, Tasmania on Sunday April
28th 1996.
