Notes: These days, almost all radio transmissions of the
Tasmania Police take place on the secure and encrypted EDACS network, Tasmania
being the first state’s police service to go digital, way back in late 1998.
Only SA and Tasmania currently operate statewide digital networks. That said,
there are still occasion when Tasmania will use both it’s old VHF allocation,
frequencies from the National Police UHF Allocation (468.2000MHz etc) and can
be heard ‘in the clear’ on EDACS from time to time, this will mostly be officer
to officer general chit-chat, and many
Tasmanian police officers believe that there signal is encrypted during these
conversations, (their command told them this!!) when in fact it isn’t and some
real juicy stuff can be heard. Check
out the EDACS Help Page for further information.
