Australian Capital Territory Bushfire Service
Overview
The
Bushfire Act, 1936, establishes the Bushfire Service. It is primarily
responsible for the suppression of wildfires. As with the ACT Fire Brigade, the
Bushfire Service is administered by the ACT
Emergency Services Bureau (ESB, who are also responsible for the ACT
Ambulance and ACT Emergency Service[1]).
The brigades within the ACT Bushfire Service are:
- Hall* Volunteer
Bushfire Brigade, Hall, covering the north western outskirts of
Canberra*
- Gungahlin* Volunteer
Bushfire Brigade (new), currently in Mitchell, moving to
Gungahlin Joint Emergency Services Centre, in the Gungahlin Town Centre*
- Molonglo* Volunteer
Brigade, based outside of Higgins, covering the north western
outskirts of Canberra
- Jerrabomberra*
Volunteer Bushfire Brigade, based in Symonston,
covering the eastern outskirts of Canberra
- The Rivers* Volunteer
Bushfire Brigade, based on the Cotter Road, covering the south
western outskirts of Canberra
- Tidbinbilla Volunteer
Bushfire Brigade, based on "Oakey Creek" station,
covering the Paddys Valley area
- Southern Districts
Volunteer Bushfire Brigade, based at Tharwa, covering
the Naas Valley area
- Guises Creek*
Volunteer Bushfire Brigade, based at Royalla, covering
the Monaro Highway corridor. Click here for their

by ACT Parks and Conservation Service and Canberra
Urban Parks
- Forests Bushfire
Brigade, run by ACT Forests
- Headquarters Bushfire
Brigade, manned by senior officers of the Service, providing
incident management

are joint Bushfire Brigades and ACT Emergency Service
Brigades, meaning the Bushfire Service shares its station with the ACT
Emergency Service.
