SBS Provides a free-to-air national broadcasting service of which the majority is foreign-language movies. SBS does provide a lot of international soccer coverage, along with probably the most detailed world news service, (Which is broadcast in English)available on free-to-air. The station broadcasts in a vast majority of languages from all over the world.
It is a mostly Government subsidised company, however a recent introduction of small commercial breaks has not altered the multicultural diversity of this broadcaster, and continues to provide the various people from all over the world who call Australia home a free-to-air broadcaster.

NOTES:
1. Two, Seven, Nine & Ten are only actually broadcast on these frequencies in all Australian Capital Cities. Outside these areas different channels among the 69 frequency pairs are used, otherwise, when atmospheric conditions change people in Melbourne would get cross-band interference from country broadcasts, while the country people would get interference from the city, resulting in snowy pictures, lines in the picture, in some, and extremely rare cases, no picture at, ven though the TV is working fine and tuned to the right frequency (In this case two signals from different areas have hit the antenna at exactly the same milli-second, cancelling each other out, and therefore, no picture.
2. Some, mostly larger populations, have some, if not
a significant amount of local content. Ie. Albury, Wagga, Ballarat, Newcastle,
Mildura, Bendigo etc. Which commercial stations provide local TV coverage
varies between individual stations. Which stations provide local content can be
worked out by simply travelling to that town. If everyone who reads this site can please
tell me if they are provided with, for example a National News at 6pm on Prime,
followed by the Albury News at 6.30pm on Prime, last time I was in Albury this
was the case. Please email TV information for your town.
The Complete list of Australian TV Broadcast Standards, Frequencies, Channels, Callsigns etc is provided elsewhere on this website, for both Digital and Analogue TV.
International TV Information will be added in the future. PAY TV will be added in the future.
